How to R.I.S.E.
When faced with a blank canvas, we have an opportunity for the next masterpiece. It’s an opportunity to place our unique impact on the world and define the legacy we build in others. It’s a sacred space. It’s an opportunity to take one more step in fulfilling the purpose for which we were created.
This pneumonic device will help you find your purpose and paint your masterpiece as you plan your rise.
R – Reflect
Start by reflecting on past experiences, both successes and failures, to understand your past. Focus on the challenges that you’ve faced and how you have overcome them. Is there a visible pattern? Areas of consistency or inconsistency? What do they tell you?
This reflection helps demystify the blank page, framing it as the next step in an ongoing journey of learning and growth.
Write 1-page stories about each of these experiences, identifying the problem you faced, what or who guided you, how you overcame the challenge, and what the outcome was.
I – Innovate
Use the insights gained from reflection to innovate. You can approach the blank page with fresh ideas and perspectives based on the identified patterns. Innovation here means breaking bad patterns, experimenting with new techniques, or tackling projects from unique angles to breathe life into your creations.
Innovation here is an ongoing continuous improvement process, allowing yourself to try and learn. It opens your mind to the idea that things that didn’t perfectly work the way you expected can be used for greater purposes in the future.
As you build on innovative ideas, you will learn to fortify your resolve, allowing you to set a foundation that will help you achieve your dreams.
S – Strengthen
Strengthen can mean many things. It likely will mean many things to you as you learn to RISE.
· Strengthen your resolve by setting clear intentions and goals for what you aim to achieve with your new project.
· Strengthen your habits that help build positive disciplines in your life.
· Strengthen your mind in seeing and remembering the patterns of success that have gotten you to where you are.
This step involves building confidence in your creative abilities. It helps reinforce your commitment to see your effort through despite possible challenges.
E - Execute
Finally, execute your vision by taking concrete steps to start the project.
This phase involves putting pen to paper, brush to canvas, boots to the ground, or fingers to keys—transforming thought into action. Execution is where the potential of the blank page begins to materialize into something tangible. This might look like writing 500 words daily, taking at least one action step towards your goal, or preparing meals for the week ahead.
As you learn to RISE, you will find the desire to over-plan. Focusing on the Execution step allows you to break every significant effort into smaller pieces. And most importantly, act.
In these small steps you take, you will find progress. You will discover adaptability. You will find confidence, and you will find joy.
